About Raku - The short version is...

First of all, in case you overlooked the 'important notice' section, our raku is NOT safe for food or liquid consumption and is porous, meaning it won't hold water. Most/all raku is like that as well, not just ours.

Based on what I have read, raku dates back to the 16th century in Japan. It was used in a tea ceremony. Raku transformed into something completely different as it traveled to the West and became more for decorative use.

Unlike stoneware, raku pots are removed from the second kiln firing while the kiln is super hot (1300-1800 degrees Fahrenheit) and placed within combustible material to quickly and safely reduce the temperature and to achieve different colors.

After each piece has cooled, they are gently washed, and a polish is applied.

These raku pots are more random in color, whereas our stoneware

pots are all glazed and predictable in color.

Some of these raku pots have glazes, and some are

colored by fumes and smoke.

We only create raku pots randomly and sparsely through the year.

We can, however, let you know when we will have more available.

Just sign up on our Newsletter page.

Additional Information:

These items are 'ONE OF A KIND'

We cannot duplicate colors

We can duplicate shapes and sizes

Artist Note:

Raku is a very different technique compared to stoneware.

We like this process so much because it allows us to be outside,

we get to play with fire, and we get to be around many friends that help with the process.
