materials go in a box?
materials go in a box?
- Each pottery item is wrapped in bubble wrap.
- Each box is packed full of packing peanuts.
- Each item is taped into place.
- Each item is separated with cardboard (when needed).
- Each box has multiple 'Fragile' Stickers on it.
- And yes, this takes awhile to correctly wrap and place each item safely in the box.

Additional Shipping Information
What, no FREE Shipping?
We designed our shipping & handling costs to break even.
Our goal is to treat everyone how we would like to be treated.
Why is there no FREE shipping?
We do not ‘build-in’ our shipping prices into the price of each item.
We sell our products through two methods: our brick and mortar storefront and through our website.
IF we did ‘build-in’ our shipping prices, our walk-in customers would be over paying for items that are not being shipped. A ‘built-in’ price would over-charge web site customers who live closer to us, because shipping costs less when the shipping distance is shorter.
Here is what WE FOUND OUT as a small business……..
As a small business, we don’t get the huge discounts that the big box companies get because they ship a tremendous volume of items (which are not handmade by an artist).
A couple ways we keep SHIPPING COSTS DOWN.
TIPS!
Keep in mind………
Each piece is hand-made, hand-packed in a box, and handed to you. Enjoy!

Here is what WE FOUND OUT as a small business……..
- USPS, UPS, and FedEx don’t let us ship through them for free.
- Our wholesale nationwide packaging supplier doesn’t give us free boxes, bubble wrap, packing peanuts, fragile sticker, or tape for free either. Oh, and they charge us for S/H.
- And finally, we don’t have a magical elf that comes at night and individually wraps each piece with care, puts in the packing peanuts, does all the paper work, and then takes it to the carrier for us. Bummer.
As a small business, we don’t get the huge discounts that the big box companies get because they ship a tremendous volume of items (which are not handmade by an artist).
A couple ways we keep SHIPPING COSTS DOWN.
- We buy all of our packaging material from a nationwide wholesaler.
- We don’t charge what we should for how long it takes us to box up an order. (That will make more sense when you see how well we wrap everything)
- Since we wrap so well, we haven’t had anything break for many years now. This saves our customers time by not having to deal with an insurance claim for broken pottery.
TIPS!
- The more you buy at one time, the cheaper the shipping becomes.
- Why? Because USPS charges by weight per box. The more items in one box, the cheaper the shipping percentage becomes.
- Example:
- To ship 10 coffee mugs ($200 worth of product) to Georgia is about $46.56 (23% of the purchase price).
- To ship 1 coffee mug ($20 worth of product) to Georgia is about $14.88 (74% of the purchase price).
- Why? Because USPS charges by weight per box. The more items in one box, the cheaper the shipping percentage becomes.
Keep in mind………
Each piece is hand-made, hand-packed in a box, and handed to you. Enjoy!

Loading the van with the RAGBRAI riders' purchases. Many of the boxes contained hand-carved bicycle coffee mugs we made special for the event. We still make them and many other types as well. |
